October through March is your window. Cooler temperatures and more consistent rainfall mean new trees don't stress out trying to establish roots while fighting heat and dry conditions. Trees planted in fall have the whole winter to settle in before summer heat hits. That's survival time.

Summer planting is rough. Your new tree is already struggling with transplant shock, and then it's 85°F with trade winds drying everything out. You'll be watering constantly, and half the time it still doesn't make it.
